What you'll do:

As an Assistant Finance Manager based in Port Klang on a one-year contract with the potential for permanency, you will be entrusted with overseeing all aspects of financial planning, budgeting, reporting, and compliance within a leading manufacturing environment.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve preparing detailed monthly reports using advanced financial systems like Cognos Controller while ensuring all reconciliations are completed accurately. You will play a key role in analysing variances between actuals and budgets to inform business decisions.
Supervising the finance team will require you to offer ongoing support and training so that both individual members and the wider team can achieve their goals. In addition to managing core finance functions such as payroll processing, accounts reconciliation, cash flow monitoring, inventory oversight, debtor collection management, cost analysis submissions, budgeting exercises, asset tracking activities, statutory compliance tasks—including coordination with auditors/tax agents—and more—you will also collaborate closely with operations teams across supply chain and sales functions.

Success in this role means not only maintaining rigorous standards of accuracy but also contributing valuable insights that drive operational efficiency throughout the organisation.

  • Prepare and submit monthly financial reports using Cognos Controller while ensuring timely completion of balance sheet reconciliations and related documentation.
  • Perform comprehensive month-end closing activities including overhead allocations and account reconciliations to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Analyse variances between actual results and budgeted figures to provide actionable insights for business decision-making.
  • Supervise finance department staff by offering guidance, support, and training to foster both individual development and team success.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are processed accurately and promptly in accordance with established accounting standards such as GAAP and IFRS.
  • Manage payroll processes as well as accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, bank reconciliations, and allocations; act as backup when necessary to ensure continuity.
  • Oversee cash flow management, inventory levels, debtor collections, and creditor payments in alignment with annual KPIs to optimise working capital.
  • Monitor debtor collections closely and apply bad debt provisions according to group policy while reviewing inventory reports for obsolete stock provisions.
  • Lead monthly variance analysis submissions and provide detailed cost analyses to support margin optimisation, pricing strategies, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Develop annual financial budgets aligned with business objectives; prepare standard product costing budgets each year to guide strategic planning.
  • Oversee asset management activities including tracking capital purchases, managing asset capitalization and depreciation schedules, and conducting annual asset verifications.
  • Ensure full statutory compliance by liaising with auditors and tax agents for statutory reporting requirements including corporate tax filings, SST submissions, transfer pricing documentation; coordinate with bankers, lawyers, consultants, and relevant authorities as needed.

What you bring:

To excel as an Assistant Finance Manager in this manufacturing setting located at Port Klang requires substantial experience gained over at least ten years within similar environments—ideally including three or more years spent managing teams toward collective goals.
Your proven track record should include holding professional qualifications such as ACCA or MIA (or their equivalents), underpinned by deep familiarity with IFRS/MFRS standards; any prior exposure gained through Big 4 audit firms would further strengthen your candidacy.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in accounting or finance roles within the manufacturing sector including at least 3 years in a managerial capacity where you have guided teams towards shared objectives.
  • Professional qualification such as ACCA or MIA (or equivalent) is preferred along with strong expertise in IFRS/MFRS standards; Big 4 audit background would be highly advantageous for this position.
