Job Descriptions:
- Collaboration with Physicians: Should establish strong relationships with the retired home's panel doctors and locum doctors (temporary replacements).
This can involve:
- Regular communication: Schedule meetings or calls to discuss resident care plans, treatment options, and potential medication changes.
- Seeking guidance in urgent situations: When a resident experience an urgent medical issue and a doctor isn't immediately available, Clinical In -charge should proactively reach out to a panel doctor or locum doctor for advice on managing the situation until a doctor can physically examine the resident. This might involve discussing potential medication adjustments based on the resident's history and doctor's past recommendations, but always adhering to established protocols (SOPs).
- Documenting communication: Clearly document all conversations and recommendations from doctors, including panel doctors and locums, to ensure continuity of care and clear communication with all staff involved in the resident's care.
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide direction and mentorship to nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and nursing assistants.
- Ensure staff are up-to-date on best practices and regulations through continuing education programs.
- Manage staff performance through evaluations and disciplinary actions (if necessary). Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Clinical Expertise:
- Stay current on best practices in geriatric care and implement them in the nursing home. Work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure residents receive coordinated care.
- Manage complex resident cases and provide guidance to staff.
- The Role of Purchasing :
- Needs Assessment and Procurement: Identify resident needs and forecast future requirements for medical supplies. This includes items like incontinence products, bandages, wound care dressings, catheters, medications, and other consumables.
- Vendor Selection and Negotiation: Research and identify qualified vendors who offer competitive pricing, high-quality products, and reliable delivery times. Negotiate bulk purchase discounts and favorable payment terms whenever possible.
- Inventory Management:
- Maintain optimal stock levels to avoid stockouts while minimizing storage costs. Implement a system for tracking inventory levels and reordering supplies before they run out.
- Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of medical supplies before purchasing. This might involve requesting samples, reviewing product specifications, and considering industry certifications.
- Ensuring Compliance: Ensure all purchased medical supplies comply with relevant regulations and standards.
- Develop and manage a budget for medical supplies, seeking cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
- Coordinate timely deliveries of medical supplies to ensure uninterrupted resident care. This may involve scheduling deliveries based on usage patterns and storage capacity.
- Implement systems to prevent stockouts of critical supplies. This might involve setting reorder points, maintaining safety stock levels, and establishing communication channels with vendors for expedited deliveries if needed.
- Customer Journey Considerations:
- Ensure clear communication and transparency in patient billing regarding medical supply usage.
- Meeting Invoice Deadlines: Prioritize timely processing of invoices
Requirements:
- Degree in Nursing, Healthcare, Medical Sciences, or a related field.
- 5 to 6 years relevant working experience in a healthcare, clinical training, or academic setting.
- Experience and proven record of leading a team of staff nurse, caregivers and homecare team.
- Proficient in managing clinical tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Capable of setting up teaching aids and using multimedia/audio-visual tools.
- Competent in scheduling and coordinating teaching/practice sessions.
- Competent in people management skill and ability to arrange shift rotation.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with all the stakeholders in a professional settings.
