What you'll do:
As an Assistant Vice President Finance based in Kuala Lumpur, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of all financial reporting activities across multiple accounting standards.- Prepare, review, and supervise comprehensive financial reports in accordance with Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards (MFRS), Japanese GAAP (J-GAAP), and US GAAP, ensuring timely submission to regulatory authorities, parent bank, management, board committees, auditors, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee daily finance operations including non-trade payments processing, daily account balancing activities, audit confirmations, and ensure accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closing processes that comply with internal accounting policies and tax regulations.
- Liaise effectively with regulatory bodies such as Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN), as well as internal and external auditors, IT teams, company secretaries, legal advisors, compliance officers, and other key stakeholders on matters affecting the company’s financial standing.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis, planning, forecasting activities for management decision-making purposes as well as for board presentations and regulatory submissions.
- Regularly review workflow processes within the finance function to identify areas for improvement in turnaround times and productivity while proactively addressing potential risks through system enhancements or procedural changes.
- Participate actively in advisory roles on company initiatives and working groups related to finance functions by contributing insights that support business objectives and regulatory compliance.
- Support internal audits by preparing required documentation promptly and responding thoughtfully to queries from auditors or regulators during routine reviews or special investigations.
- Ensure all financial records are maintained accurately in line with statutory requirements while upholding the highest standards of integrity in reporting practices.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices in financial management that align with organisational goals for sustainable growth.
- Champion knowledge sharing within the team by mentoring junior staff members on technical accounting issues or process improvements.
What you bring:
To excel as an Assistant Vice President Finance, you will bring proven experience managing complex financial operations within regulated environments such as banking or professional audit firms.- A recognised degree in Finance or Accountancy or its equivalent from an accredited university or higher learning institution along with a professional qualification such as ACCA, CIMA or CPA is essential for this role.
- At least five years of relevant experience gained within audit firms or the banking industry is highly desirable; prior exposure to both environments would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—including Excel for data analysis, Word for report preparation, MS Access for database management, and PowerPoint for presentations—is required.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high levels of accuracy under pressure is crucial for success in this position.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are needed to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments as well as external partners such as auditors or regulators.
- Meticulous attention to detail combined with a proactive approach ensures that all tasks are completed thoroughly without compromising quality standards.
- Comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles (including MFRS), corporate tax regulations applicable in Malaysia, and banking sector compliance requirements is expected.
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities enable you to build positive relationships with both internal teams and external agencies involved in financial oversight.
- Experience supporting process improvements through workflow reviews or system upgrades would be beneficial but not mandatory; willingness to learn new systems is important.
