What you'll do:
As a Technical Solutions Engineer – Power Systems based in Penang, you will immerse yourself in a dynamic environment where your day-to-day activities revolve around bridging technical requirements with practical solutions. Your primary focus will be on understanding intricate performance criteria from stakeholders across departments before crafting fit-for-purpose proposals that address both commercial viability and regulatory compliance.You will take ownership of the technical aspects of tenders—preparing detailed submissions that stand up to scrutiny during client presentations or interviews—and provide ongoing support throughout all phases of project delivery. Your expertise in electrical design will see you developing precise drawings while ensuring all documentation is meticulously prepared for smooth handovers.
In addition to these core responsibilities, you will play an instrumental role in mentoring less experienced colleagues by sharing your knowledge through structured training sessions and developing resources that raise overall team capability.
By collaborating with cross-functional teams—including Parts & Service, Projects, Production, Sales & Marketing—you will help align everyone’s efforts towards successful project outcomes while maintaining open channels of communication with external principals when needed.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to thoroughly understand complex performance, compliance, and operational requirements for generator and engine solutions.
- Propose technically robust and commercially viable solutions tailored for various sectors such as industrial facilities, commercial buildings, marine applications, and data centres.
- Validate proposed configurations using sound engineering calculations to ensure alignment with relevant standards as well as project-specific functional and performance requirements.
- Lead the preparation of technical content for customer tenders and Requests for Quotation (RFQ) submissions by providing detailed engineering input.
- Represent the company during technical presentations, tender clarifications, interviews with clients or consultants, ensuring all queries are addressed professionally throughout the tender process.
- Respond promptly to technical queries at every stage of the project lifecycle including tender evaluations, Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and post-handover support.
- Collaborate closely with the Sales team to assess bid/no-bid decisions based on technical feasibility and suitability for each project opportunity.
- Develop and review comprehensive electrical drawings such as single-line diagrams, control schematics, interface wiring layouts, and integration overviews for seamless project execution.
- Prepare complete technical documentation packages for project handover that meet both customer expectations and internal quality standards (including OMMs, FAT/SAT forms, datasheets).
- Mentor junior engineers by guiding them on best practices in technical evaluation processes, documentation standards, product knowledge transfer; conduct internal briefings; develop standard templates; host training sessions for internal teams.

- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline provides you with the foundational knowledge required for this role.
- At least five years’ experience working with genset systems, engines or rotating machinery applications ensures you bring hands-on field support expertise.
- Excellent communication skills enable you to convey complex information clearly across diverse stakeholder groups including internal teams and external consultants.
- Demonstrated proficiency in report-writing, presentation delivery and preparing thorough documentation supports effective project management.
- Advanced skills using calculation tools such as Microsoft Excel allow you to validate engineering proposals efficiently.
- Competence with CAD software (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) enables you to produce accurate electrical designs essential for successful project execution.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%—mainly domestically but occasionally internationally—for site visits or demonstrations shows your flexibility in supporting projects wherever needed.
- Exposure to data centre applications or large-scale industrial tender projects would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier III standards or ISO 8528/ISO 3743 regulations is desirable for candidates looking to excel further in this sector.
- Chartered Engineer status (IMechE/IET) or previous experience working with OEMs or large distributors would be considered beneficial.
