An industry innovator specializing in the development of state-of-the-art, high-performance Automated Material Handling Systems (AMHS) is seeking an Mechanical Engineer to join its growing team in Penang, Malaysia. The company continues to achieve strong revenue and profit growth and offers an exciting environment at the forefront of automation technology.

Job Responsibilities:

• Responsible for overseeing the mechanical application engineering team to ensure all design deliverables meet technical, quality, and timeline requirements.
• Provide technical leadership in designing custom material handling and automation systems to meet customer specifications.
• Review and approve conceptual designs, 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and related documentation.
• Drive design improvements and standardization initiatives across product lines.
• Coordinate with Sales, Project Management, Electrical, and Software teams to ensure complete system integration.
• Support technical discussions and presentations with customers during pre-sales and post-sales phases.
• Manage resource planning, recruitment, coaching, and performance evaluation of team members.
• Develop and enforce standard operating procedures, design guidelines, and quality control measures.
• Monitor engineering KPIs including schedule adherence, cost control, and customer satisfaction.
• Evaluate and manage project risks, providing solutions to resolve technical and resource challenges.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., SEMI, ISO) and internal company policies.
• Oversee the continuous professional development of engineers under the department.
• Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for design and production issues when escalated.
• Plan and manage departmental budget, tools, and software licenses.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical design or application engineering, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role.
• Strong exposure to automation systems, machine design, and semiconductor/cleanroom industry requirements.
• Strong leadership, team development and decision-making skills.
• Effective communicator across all levels of the organization.
• Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical design principles, ergonomics, safety standards and manufacturing processes.
• Familiar with product development lifecycle, risk management and FMEA/DOE methodologies.
• Experience working with cross-functional engineering and project teams.
• Proficient in CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCad.
• Strong skills in mechanical calculations, material selection and tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of SEMI and cleanroom equipment standards is preferred.
• Ability to review and approve complex engineering documentation and designs.
